SWEETS

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 500 g flour

  • 1 packet dry yeast

  • 80 g sugar

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 100 g soft butter

  • 250 ml lukewarm milk

  • 1 egg

For the filling (classic):

  • 80 g soft butter

  • 80 g sugar

  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

Preparation

  1. Prepare the yeast
Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk and let it rest for about 5 minutes until it starts to foam slightly.

  2. Make the dough
Combine flour, sugar, salt, egg, and the yeast-milk mixture in a large bowl. Knead into a smooth dough. Add the butter last and knead until the dough becomes soft and elastic.

  3. Let the dough rise
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until it has doubled in size.

  4. Prepare the filling
Mix the butter, sugar, and cinnamon into a smooth, creamy paste.

  5. Roll out and fill the dough
Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the cinnamon butter mixture evenly on top, and roll it up tightly from the long side.

  6. Cut the rolls
Cut the roll into even slices (about 3–4 cm thick).

  7. Second rise
Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise again for 20–30 minutes.

  8. Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (350 °F) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.

Tip for beginners

  • For extra softness, brush the rolls after baking with a simple icing made of powdered sugar and lemon juice or a classic cream cheese frosting.

  • You can also use brown sugar for the filling for a deeper caramel flavor.
